Volunteer in Africa

If you are interested in giving your time by volunteering to work in Africa supporting development aid projects you should contact our partner The College for International Co-operation and Development (CICD) in Hull.

CICD educates volunteers to work in Humana People to People’s projects in Africa and India. The college offers the students a two year program. For the first 6 months they learn about the country that they are going to and the work that they are going to carry out either in Africa or India. Big questions like climate change and the great divide between the rich and poor are also on the agenda. For the next 3 months the students are fundraising, working, saving and preparing for a 3 month journey to their project in the developing world. The project work will last for 6 months and thereafter the students will study and carry out promotional work for 6 months to pass on their knowledge to the public.

Planet Aid UK works together with the school and many development instructors have passed through Planet Aid UK’s workplace as part of their programme. They have either worked in the area of promotion, where their main job has been to find new hosts for Planet Aid UK’s community banks, or in the workshop where they have been part of the team refurbishing or manufacturing our clothing banks.

The difference between the rich and the poor remains the most fundamental contradiction in today’s world. Billions of people live in poverty, many of them with no chance of changing their situation if they don’t get a helping hand. There is a very big need for people from the richer parts of the world to take a solid stand against this by placing themselves shoulder to shoulder with the poor.
